Charitable Contributions

In 2008, Utahns made over 27,000 donations to charities totaling over $331,000. The donations helped wildlife, the homeless, ill children, and schools. See page 14 of the TC-40 instructions for more detail. You can contribute to these funds even if you aren't getting a refund. Contributions to these funds will increase your tax due or reduce your refund.

You can contribute to the following charitable causes on page 2 of your Utah return.

  • Utah Nongame Wildlife Fund – Helps fund preservation, perpetuation, and enhancement of protected or endangered nongame wildlife species. Contact Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, 1594 W North Temple, Suite 2110, SLC, UT 84116, telephone 801-538-4853 for more information.
  • Pamela Atkinson Homeless Trust Fund – Helps fund statewide services and programs to assist homeless Utahns become self-sufficient. Contact Governor's Office of Economic Development, 324 S State St, Suite 500, SLC, UT 84111, telephone 801-538-8650 or click here for more information.
  • Kurt Oscarson Children's Organ Transplant Fund – Provides financial help to families of children needing organ transplants. Contact Department of Health, 7247 S Santa Maria Circle, West Jordan, UT 84084, telephone 801-566-5356 or 801-243-7060 for more information.
  • School Districts and Nonprofit School District Foundations – Helps fund private, nonprofit school district foundations that promote (1) partnership activities between schools and communities; (2) charitable activities to specific education programs; and (3) opportunities for scientific, educational and literary improvement. Select a specific school district (or school district foundation) to receive your donation. The contribution goes directly to the school district or nonprofit foundation.
  • Cat and Dog Community Spay and Neuter Program – Provides funding for organizations operating qualified veterinary clinics that spay and neuter cats and dogs owned by low-income persons.
